To my students


Dear future students,
I write to you with excitement for my future with you as your educator! It has been a long, arduous journey to get here and I couldn’t be happier to go through this part of your lives with you. You have made an incredible decision to get into nursing and you should be so proud of yourself.
I come from an educational background that started fairly basic with power point led lectures and paper instructions for laboratory competencies. Now I come to you armed with various technological ideas and strategies to make your learning experiences as fun as possible. You will find yourself using a plethora of new avenues for learning and some we may even learn to use together.


As the use of technology in our careers continue to grow, we will embrace it to our best abilities. My education style is going to be one that is technologically versed  and will be included in most activities. I ask for your open mind and patience as we grow together. I want you to remain engaged and look forward to your education. I will do everything I can to be fun, interesting and fair. Cheers to our future together!

Feed Forward

The concept of feed forward is a very intriguing one. By using this idea to essentially provide feedback to myself and my teaching, it will provide me with the insight into what I may not be doing well. Whether it be that students, as a whole, may be struggling with something, or maybe even showing me that one particular student is falling behind. I want to be the type of educator that can have some sort of control over how my students feel they are learning, and how they are learning from me. By having a system of feedback and feed forward, I hope to be able to an honest and open relationship with my students. Data Management

If there is one thing I know about myself, is that I am confident in being able to navigate technology. I can remember starting to use computers at home when I was still pretty young, possibly 3 rd or 4 th grade. My mother has worked in a chemistry laboratory longer than I’ve been alive, and has always used computers to help her compile data, so we have always had access to computers. When taking the self-assessment, I was both surprised and not surprised of my score. I scored as “confident in the ability to use various computer programs and views computers as beneficial”. I made the assumption that as a generation X’er, that I would be confident in the use of technology, yet I also expected a higher score as someone who is self-proclaimed to be confident in such.                        Nursing education has come such a long way since its inception. Educators have come from teaching only doctors in a hospital setting, to teaching via the internet in virtual classrooms. Becoming a nurse educator is something that one should be proud of and use all available resources to make students better and to make them better nurses. This is relied heavily on the use of technology in that education.             I do not remember having much in the category of technology when I was in school for my Associate’s Degree. I remember there was discussion of getting a simulation mannequin the year I graduated. Yes, we used online resources for studying for the NCLEX and participated in online course, but nothing like there is today. There are so many options to be used for students now, and that plethora of technology is what will be best for my future students.             The IOM recommends that students take full advantage of the use of technology
